3rd Quarter Reflection

We have already reached the end of the quarter! It went by so fast and I can't believe the school year is almost over. I hope that this quarter will be just as good as the others.

In English Language Arts, I think I made the biggest improvements in writing. I can now write better than before. I now know to use a topic sentence and support details. I also got better at writing the objective summaries. I also got to work on my argumentative writing by writing the letter to the governor.

The most challenging part of the 3rd quarter for me was grammar. I was putting commas after the conjunction. It was a habit to put them before, but I know now and try hard to put the comma before. I also was having some trouble with FANBOYS. I now have had the practice with them and have really progressed with them.

Something I have accomplished since the new year that I am proud of is that I read 4 books for the Battle of the Books in about a month and a half. I read the Black Duck, The Testing, Trash, and The Wall. I never thought that I would be able to read that many books in a specific time period.

Another thing that I have accomplished since the new year is my diction. The weekly vocabulary tests played a major part in that. I was learning a lot of exciting new words that mean the same thing as the plain and boring word. Instead of saying "I'm confused", I can now say "I'm befuddled" or "I'm discombobulated".

A strategy that benefited me was the making sure that I have a topic sentence and supporting details. Before I used to only put a lot of sentences (that would relate to the same topic) together. I never thought that they would all have to tie into the very first sentence, and that the rest of the paragraph would have to support it.

  1. I agree with everything you said in your blog. I think you should have made your paragraphs longer. Other than that, great blog!

  2. Great Job!! I can really relate and agree to this. I really liked how in your 4th paragraph you talked about an accomplishment that you didn't think was achievable for you, but you did achieve it. Great Job!
