Book List Challenge
1. Wonder by R.J. Palacio
I love Wonder it is one of my favorite books because it shows and explains different points of views from the family and on how people judge each other. With someone in the family having a deformed face, the lesson in the story continues as it changes the different points of views. This novel showed me not to judge a person by their appearances nor their religion, and to just get to know their real personality, not their appearance.
2. The Giver by Lois Lowdry
The Giver is a wonderful example of how we are lucky to have freedom. We are lucky to be able to have memories, families, and the right to be able to do whatever we want to do. Most importantly, we are lucky to be able to love. This novel showed me not to take anything for granted and to appreciate my family more.
3. Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games has influenced my life by making me more aware that if what happened in the book were to happen in real life, I wouldn't be able to survive. Like Katniss Everdeen learned to accept that she was going to the games, this book taught me to be prepared for anything in life that might be a struggle.
4. Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business by Barbara Park
When I was 7 years old, I read Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business, and it has impacted my life ever since. This book is about when Junie B. Jones gets a little brother. When I was seven years old, I was also going to get a baby brother, and reading this book was really fun. I learned things that I wasn't and was supposed to do with my little brother.
5. Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer
Smart Girls Get What They Want really influenced my life because Bea (the main character) was shy. Then as the story goes, she learns to do public speaking and get out of her comfort zone. This story showed me that you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it. Even if you are shy, you can still speak up and be outgoing.
6. Drums, Girls, Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick
Drums, Girls, Dangerous Pie was very sad and funny, and gave me a new persecutive on cancer. When 13 year old Steven's little brother is diagnosed with cancer, the book gets very sad. This book really showed me what a person has to do to get the right treatment for cancer. They might even have to go to different states. Before reading this book, I thought cancer was just a sickness and that you have to get very strong treatment for it. I now know that it is more than that and people really suffer from it.
7. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
Hatchet is one of my all-time favorite books that really opened my eyes to nature. Before reading this book I really didn't know much about nature and survival. I wasn't really drawn to the wilderness, hiking, or camping. I also didn't appreciate nature much. Now I want to go camping all the time. I recently went to Starved Rock for a hike. We even stayed in a tent! It was so much fun.
8. Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Muñoz Ryan
Warning: Might spoil book
Becoming Naomi Leon has several lessons from several different characters. One of the lessons is not to give up on something. Naomi's mom gave her up to her grandma. Then when she returned and tried to get Naomi back, she kind of didn't want to go. Once you give up on something, there is not a 100% chance that you will get it back. That is what this book showed me.
9. Oliver Gets Hearing Aids by Maureen Cassidy R., Nikolas Klakow, Polygone, Nicolas Babey
Oliver Gets Hearing Aids had really impacted my life because I have worn hearing aids all my life. I remember my mom read it to me when I was little. I didn't really get that I had hearing loss and this book really helped me understand it better. It is a cartoon book so of course a 5 year old will get it. This book has really influenced my life because I have had hearing loss all my life, and sometimes I still can't get that through my head. Reading this book helps me get it through my head and the funny parts make me laugh.
10. Forged by Fire by Sharon M. Draper
Forged by Fire taught me to stick up for other people. Angel, the little sister in the story gets abused. Gerald the older brother tries to protect her as much as he can. I now stick up for my little brother whenever he gets bothered by my older cousins. I also stick up for anybody in my family whenever they are being bothered.
